It started right after Memorial Day. The biggest event to hit music city all year. You got it...The CMA festival! Last year, Top-Notch Talent (my little company) hosted a big singing contest at the Nashville Palace. Right in the middle of the festival week and it, to me, was so exciting.
This year, I wanted to do something that was less of a contest and more of a seminar.
So, we got a room at S.I.R. of Nashville. We had 20 open spots and filled 20 spots a month and a half early. We had Jonell Polansky, Kirsti Manna & Bill Warner giving critiques and business advise as it relates to the music industry and performing in general. I took pics. which you can find on facebook or on the highlights page on Top-Notch Talent.
This was my very first event at S.I.R. and I think it went really well. We are planning on having many more events. With many more professionals to help light the way for indie newcomers. My biz partner, Mike Hammond, KSBT radio, couldn't make it to do the sound for the show (although he is still doing all the interviews). So, my hubby, Scott filled in and did a great job. AND...kept a cool head throughout the entire day.
Okay, so next.... I had about a month to stay out of trouble and I really did my best. Then, I did two musical theater summer programs in Nashville at USN (University School of Nashville) It was so much fun. I had a blast putting these shows together and working with these talented kids. Not to mention, the grounds of this school are breathtaking.
BUT HERE'S THE REALLY BIG NEWS....
Okay, if you are a performer and you want to really learn how to look like you know what you are doing on stage you hire Tom Jackson. He is the "go to guy" in the field of stage performance. ( I know there are naturals and bands that are just born to be together on a stage. This is for everyone else.) As a matter of fact if you google producing live concerts or stage performance....His name is one of the only ones that will come up. The others are usually people who were taught by him.
I have been a big fan of his since he helped Kayla Nettles get ready for her appearance on Idol. All of the things I saw in his videos were things I always thought about but thought nobody else did. I constantly wondered if they just got up and threw it all together. When becoming certified as a life coach and making the decision to specialize in helping performers. I knew that anything I was doing really would mesh well with what this man was going around the world teaching.
Because he teaches so many of the basics to stage performing. And he really turns awkward musicians into seasoned (or at least seasoned looking- seemingly seasoned performers??) performers. So, now, after I've worked with a client who desperately wants to perform but is literally terrified of the stage or a live audience, and they reach a point where they are ready to go, I have the best place to send them! And that is just one little example of where someone like me leaves off and someone like Tom Jackson or one of his associates picks up. I did speak to a few of his associates and we discussed me promoting some of his programs. Such as an affiliation. I would and am totally into doing that. But, then I talked to Piper, the woman that runs the office.
And, Bla bla and more bla
Fast forward a few weeks and I'm taking the course and training to become a certified teacher...Yep. MOI!!! I am learning the coolest stuff. Half of my homework is spent looking for videos on Youtube. I mean they should've taught this in my college and I would've been 4.0 straight through. So far all my tests have been 100%. Ah ..yeah...that's right...I did say 100 percent. As in straight A's....No, I don't think it makes me cooler than anyone else per say. I do however, think it makes me really really cool. (Really laughing my ass off)
You may be asking...What does a certified teacher do? Ummm I'm not exactly sure. Because we teach but we aren't live producers So, I'm taking one day at a time and having fun learning things about artists that I have watched my entire life.
So, leave me a comment as to what you are doing this summer.
