I think the show features 4 or 5 teen girls and they all look very familiar. I hear that several of them have been on Nashville Spotlight or sung at 'The Palace' but that isn't the point. The point is.... I was told that before they started casting they did a preliminary search on You Tube. That is where they found these singer/songwriters... You Tube??? No big cattle calls? No months and months of waiting to see if you'll even get an audition... You Tube!
Then I remember when I was working with the Discovery Channel recommending people. Rebecca would say "Let me see a video" or "Send my a link to their video" This is how we made the audition list. YOU TUBE!!!
I guess it's safe to say that big companies do a lot of their casting at least preliminary casting through You Tube these days...Why not? It's free. And you really get an idea of the talent that's out there. So, wouldn't it also be safe to say that if you are an aspiring performer, that you would want lots of great stuff showing off your talents on You Tube and only things that show off your talents? Of course it is!!!
I am not saying that you should hire an entire production company to make your videos...That would be silly. But if you are going to video yourself singing into your phone, make sure you sound good. Make sure you are on key. Make sure you know the words. Make sure people say, "Wow she sounds good considering it's a phone and it's a capella"
If you are on a show like "Nashville Spotlight" make sure Mike Jennings (producer) puts your video on You Tube because that will be the only version that is properly mixed. I'm sure the same will go for his new show "Isle Of Hope" of which I am the creative director for... HEY I GET TO TOOT MY OWN HORN SOMETIMES!!! ( Hee )Some people feel they should put every videoed performance on You Tube regardless if it is good or not. That's debatable. But you definitely wanna get the good stuff on there and watched as much as possible.
If you do decide you want something a bit more professional without putting your parents in the poor house...(an old expression) There are several companies that will do it. Mike Jennings is one of the people who can do an excellent quality video for what will seem like nothing compared to the large companies...and if you want to get lots of views..contact me...(lots of views puts you high in the search engine)
Also, if you are still reading. The other thing besides talent that they are looking for when they are talent scouting, is people who are able to speak, be interviewed, be witty....This is crucial!!!! They won't have time to train you how to have a natural conversation about anything on camera. So, if you can't do it...They will go to the next person. So, now I'm gonna plug something else and it's only because I have seen how important it is and how needed it is.
All of you who are dreaming of "making it" need as much exposure as possible. You also need to learn how to market yourself, how to get booked for interviews for television, magazines and radio. I am affiliating with a company that trains people to do just that. I have used their program before with some of my clients who have written books and have small biz's and they have been on the air all over. This has paid off for them 10x plus over.
There are also tons of radio shows all over the country that are looking for guests in the entertainment field...Songwriters, singers, instrumentalists...The program teaches you everything. Then you get tons of prospective shows sent to you every week day. This is so valuable to all of you because it will give you lots of exposure as some of these radio shows are big! It will also teach you how to be a great guest. Which is imperative! Check it out Click here...RADIO and check out "Chasing Nashville"
